Quasi-Normal Modes in Topologically Massive Gravity
We determine the black hole quasi-normal mode spectrum for tensor perturbations in topologically massive AdS-gravity. In the special case of chiral gravity quasi-normal modes are absent despite of the presence of a horizon. In the process we uncover a simple algebraic structure in the quasi normal modes spectrum: the tower of QNM’s consists of descendents of a ”chiral highest weight” QNM which ...
متن کاملA characteristic approach to the quasi-normal mode problem
In this paper we discuss a new approach to the quasinormal-mode problem in general relativity. By combining a characteristic formulation of the perturbation equations with the integration of a suitable phase-function for a complex valued radial coordinate, we reformulate the standard outgoing-wave boundary condition as a zero Dirichlet condition. This has a number of important advantages over p...
متن کاملMassive Quasi-Clique Detection
We describe techniques that are useful for the detection of dense subgraphs (quasi-cliques) in massive sparse graphs whose vertex set, but not the edge set, fits in RAM. The algorithms rely on efficient semi-external memory algorithms used to preprocess the input and on greedy randomized adaptive search procedures (GRASP) to extract the dense subgraphs. A software platform was put together allo...
متن کاملQuasi Normal Modes
In this talk we review different applications of quasinormal modes to black hole physics, string theory and thermalisation in quantum field theory. In particular, we describe the the relation between quasi normal modes of AdS black holes and the time scale for thermalisation in strongly coupled, large N conformal field theory. We also discuss the problem of unitarity within this approach.
متن کاملAnalysis of optical defect cavities in 1D grating structures with quasi-normal mode theory
Subject of our investigation are resonance phenomena in optical cavities realized as defects in 1D gratings with piecewise constant refractive index distributions. Upon viewing the cavity as a passive open system with intrinsically leaky behavior due to the open boundaries where waves are permitted to leave the structure, the cavity can be characterized in terms of complex frequencies associate...
